The Island

In a coastal town, a boy named Tomás had a great dream: to become an explorer. Since he was little, he had been fascinated by maps, the stories of sailors, and the legends of lost islands. One afternoon, while sailing on his small raft, something shiny caught his attention among the waves. As he approached, he found an old rolled-up map that looked as ancient as the stories he had heard. The map led to an unknown island, surrounded by unexplored seas, and promised adventures, mysteries, and hidden treasures. Tomás felt it was time to embark on a grand adventure. He spent the night preparing his raft with everything necessary: food, water, a lantern, a compass, and his explorer’s tools. At dawn, he set sail.

The first day was calm, and the days passed with the sea serene and the sun shining on his face. However, on the last night, just when it seemed that the island was within reach, a storm suddenly broke out. Lightning illuminated the sky, and the waves crashed violently against his small raft. Tomás struggled against the raging waters. But finally, at dawn on the third day, he arrived at the island. The shore was covered with giant trees and surrounded by steep cliffs.

As he explored the place, he ventured deeper into the interior until he discovered a cave hidden among the rocks. The air inside the cave was cold and damp, and the echo of his footsteps resonated against the stone walls. With the lantern in hand, he moved further in until something made him stop: there were ancient inscriptions on the walls of the cave.

He proceeded cautiously and finally came across an ancient wooden chest, covered in moss and marked with strange carvings on its surface. The chest was locked with a complicated mechanism, but Tomás managed to open it with effort. Inside, he found an explorer’s journal and a large amount of ancient coins. The journal, worn and covered in dust, recounted the story of an explorer named Hernán, who had arrived on the island centuries ago.

The first pages narrated the search for a legendary treasure. Tomás, with the journal in hand, began to read. The pages told more than Hernán’s story: they also contained clues indicating the location of an even greater treasure, hidden in a deep area of the island. Following the journal’s directions, Tomás traversed the island during the day. Eventually, deep in the jungle, he found an ancient metal box, hidden among rocks and roots. When he opened it, he discovered an object: a shining amulet with symbols that radiated a magical feeling.

Tomás realized that the amulet was not an ordinary object. Upon touching it, he felt a deep connection with the island, as if he were destined to maintain the balance between nature and the beings that inhabited it. At that moment, he understood that the amulet was a guardian of the island’s magic. He recognized that this connection was so strong that he could not take the amulet with him. So, he decided to leave it in its place. As he returned to his raft, he knew that the courage to follow his dreams and the importance of preserving what he loved were the most valuable lessons of his adventure.
